Our Services

  1. Free Cutting Service
We offer free cutting on all our aluminium round tubes — one free cut per line item. Custom cuts are available to meet your specific project requirements.
Our standard cutting tolerance is ±2mm, but please be sure to contact us should greater precision be required. The saw blade normally removes approximately 5mm of material during each cut, which is shown as cut waste or kerf in the cutting tool.
Items cut to bespoke dimensions cannot normally be returned, so check your measurements carefully before ordering. Read more about our cutting service and delivery and returns terms.

Manufacturing Tolerances:
Please be aware that extruded aluminium tubes are not precision tubes. They are subject to the relevant manufacturing tolerances for both outside diameter and wall thickness.
Variations in either measurement can affect the actual internal bore of the tube. Contact us before ordering if a particular outside diameter, internal bore or dimensional tolerance is essential for your project.

Telescopic Tube Information:                                                                                                        We are often asked whether our aluminium tubes can fit inside or over one another. The following tube sizes can provide a sliding fit:

  • 8mm OD × 1mm tube fits inside ½” OD × 16swg tube
  • ½” OD × 16swg tube fits inside ⅝” OD × 18swg tube
  • ⅝” OD × 18swg tube fits inside ¾” OD × 18swg tube
  • ¾” OD × 18swg tube fits inside ⅞” OD × 18swg tube
  • ⅞” OD x 18swg tube fits inside 1” OD x 18swg tube.

Common Applications for Aluminium Round Tubes

Due to its versatility, aluminium round tubes are used in many applications, including:

  • Poles: Often seen in signposts and road signs.

  • DJ Speaker Poles: Popular in the audio industry.

  • Flag Poles: A common use for aluminium tubes.

  • Lighting Rigs: Found in theatres, arenas, and nightclubs.

  • Amateur Radio: Used by radio enthusiasts for mounting aerials.

  • Automotive Industry: Includes applications like handlebars (7/8” tube size for motorbikes), intake pipes, coolant pipes, and air conditioning systems.

  • Compressed Air Systems: Used as pipework in these systems.

  • Silencers for Guns: Manufactured from aluminium tubes.

We also offer plastic end caps to suit several of our aluminium round tubes — click here to view.

FAQ

  1. What is the difference between 6063T6 and 6082T6 aluminium round tubes?
6063T6 generally offers good workability and surface finish, making it suitable for decorative and general fabrication. 6082T6 is stronger and better suited to machining and more demanding applications. Confirm the stocked grade before ordering when the specification is important.

  2. Can aluminium round tube be cut to length?                                                    Yes. Select the required length and enter your cut dimensions on the product page. One cut is included free per line item, with additional cuts available through the cutting tool. The standard cutting tolerance is ±2mm, but please be sure to contact us should greater precision be required.

  3. How is aluminium round tube measured?                                                      Aluminium round tube is measured by its outside diameter and wall thickness. The approximate internal bore is calculated by subtracting twice the wall thickness from the outside diameter.

  4. Can aluminium round tubes fit inside one another?                              Certain tube sizes can fit inside one another, but the clearance depends on their outside diameters, wall thicknesses and manufacturing tolerances. Use the telescoping guidance above as a starting point and confirm critical fits before ordering.

  5. Are plastic end caps available for aluminium round tubes?                      Yes. Plastic end caps are available for selected imperial tube sizes. Check the stated tube size and wall-thickness compatibility before ordering.
