Precision Cutting of Aluminium: A Guide to Getting the Perfect Finish
Aluminium is a remarkably versatile metal, offering an excellent balance of strength, corrosion resistance and lightweight properties. These characteristics make it ideal for use across industries such as construction, automotive, aerospace and fabrication. However, due to the varying hardness and composition of different aluminium alloys, the cutting process is rarely one-size-fits-all. At 1st Choice Metals, we understand how the unique properties of each grade can affect the outcome of the cut, and we tailor our approach to suit.
We primarily supply three aluminium grades: 6063T6, 6082T6 and 1050H14. 6082T6 is a medium strength alloy that machines well but requires precision when sawing, making it a popular choice for structural applications. 6063T6, often referred to as an architectural alloy, is known for its smooth surface finish and is ideal for intricate profiles. 1050H14 is a bendable grade of sheet aluminium, a service which we can provide should you need your aluminium sheets folded. In addition to the alloy type, the profile of the aluminium itself plays a key role. Angles, channels and box sections all require specialist tooling to ensure clean, consistent results. The thickness of the material will also influence both the choice of cutting method and the machinery used. Continue reading Cutting Aluminium
